OUR CURRICULUM

The Early Years

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) covers all learning from birth to age 5.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a framework used in England to ensure that young children receive a high-quality education and care from birth to age 5. It sets standards for the learning, development, and care of children in this age group and is intended to help them develop the skills they need for future learning.

The EYFS Framework includes 7 areas of learning. There are 3 ‘prime’ areas and 4 ‘specific’ areas. The idea is that without skills in the prime areas, children are not able to access learning in the specific areas.

The 3 prime areas:

  • communication and language
  • physical development
  • personal, social and emotional development

The 4 specific areas:

  • literacy
  • maths
  • understanding the world
  • expressive arts and design
