Dear Parents/Carers
This week, children from Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 took part in the TEAM Cross Country event at High Bickington. Each year groups competed against other schools in the Trust, tackling a challenging course through the woods and around the field, with the distance increasing according to their age. In total, 220 children took part, and there was some very stiff competition.
We had several children achieve excellent placings in their races.

What stood out most to me, and what I am particularly proud of, was the children’s positive “can-do” attitude. Not one child said they couldn’t give it a go. Their willingness to challenge themselves and persevere reflects the resilience and determination we aim to develop through sport and across all areas of school life.
Umberleigh children are always ready to give their best and make the most of the opportunities presented to them. Events like this provide valuable learning experiences, helping children build confidence, resilience and teamwork.
There was also a very positive atmosphere throughout the event, with children cheering one another on and encouraging those who were finding the final lap challenging. Although cross-country is an individual race, it was wonderful to see such strong teamwork, support and sportsmanship on display.
Best wishes
