Dear Parents/Carers
We hope all our families had a restful and refreshing half-term break. It has been a wonderful start to the second half of the spring term, and the children have returned to school with enthusiasm, positivity, and a real readiness to learn.
We are pleased to be making more use of the field over the coming weeks. Outdoor play is such an important part of the children’s experience, and we want to continue enjoying all the opportunities that Opal can provide. As the ground can still be muddy, please ensure your child brings wellies so they can take part comfortably in all activities.
This half-term is always a busy and exciting one as we move further into spring. Classrooms are buzzing with new topics, creative projects, and plenty of opportunities for children to challenge themselves and grow in confidence.
World Book Day is coming to our school on Friday 6th March! We are getting ready to celebrate the magic and joy of reading with a fun-filled, creative and inspiring day for everyone. Children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character or author and bring their love of reading to life. The day will be packed with stories and creativity, including exciting book-inspired activities, creative storytelling, fun reading challenges and imaginative classroom experiences. We can’t wait to see all the amazing costumes and share a wonderful celebration of books together!
This is always a busy half-term with lots of exciting events and activities taking place across the school, so please make sure you keep up to date with all the important dates and information shared in the newsletter. Thank you for your continued support!
Year 1 Phonics Workshop for Parents – Wednesday 4th March
We are pleased to invite parents and carers of Year 1 children to a phonics workshop designed to help you better understand how phonics is taught in school and how you can support your child’s reading and spelling at home.
Phonics plays a vital role in early reading and writing, and in Year 1 children build on the foundations they developed in Reception. During the workshop, we will show you the strategies, terminology and activities we use in class, so you can see first-hand how children learn to blend sounds for reading and segment sounds for spelling.
The session will also include practical tips and simple activities you can use at home to support your child in a fun and confident way, as well as an opportunity to ask questions.
We hope this workshop will help strengthen the partnership between home and school and support children in becoming confident, enthusiastic readers and writers. We look forward to welcoming you and working together to support your child’s learning.
Best wishes
Corrinne Smith
