Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a really enjoyable week in school. As staff, we agreed to give the grass on the field a break from the daily Wellied Wembley final. This has given me the opportunity to see the children collaborating across many year groups to construct a base from all of our OPAL materials. It has been great to see the qualities of leadership, cooperation and consideration being put to good use. Well done all.
Squirrels and Hedgehogs went on their first trip of the year, to Tiverton Castle. They represented the school brilliantly and learned lots of new facts in support of their topic on Castles, Kings and Queens. My top take away fact was that the castle was once owned by Gytha, mother to King Harold, whose death is immortalised as part of the Bayeux tapestry.
Next week is our final week before the half-term break and we have a few events happening. On Tuesday, we have our Big Brush review, where children in Brumbles will be visited by an NHS team to show our youngest children how and why we need to look after our teeth. We also have a team coming to give nasal flu vaccinations on that day. If you have yet to sign up, you only have until 9am on Monday 19th October to do so. After this time, your child will not be able to receive a dose when the team comes in.
We also have Tempest coming in on Wednesday afternoon for individual and sibling photos. Please make sure children have their full uniform on. This includes Owls and Hedgehogs, who would normally come into school in their PE kits. No PE kits will be required.
The FUS Halloween disco is on Thursday from 5:00 till 6:30 at the Villlage Hall. Please support the group with this fundraising event. Don’t forget your scary costumes and dance moves for The Monster Mash.
And then we head to Friday, which can only mean one thing – Harvest! Please don’t forget that this year we are supporting the Freedom Centre – a homeless charity in Barnstaple. All gifts from their list will be gratefully received from you in the run-up to our harvest day on Friday.
I am also looking forward to seeing the children all dressed up in harvest-themed costumes and clothes. I have heard children discussing their outfits with their peers and teachers. It sounds like we will be visually representing a giant casserole in school on that day. Remember that we will be having a celebration in the Village Hall at 2:30pm and children of parents present will be able to go straight home from there.
Have a fantastic weekend!
